Project Space one - Proposal Call

Updated: Jan 9, 2020

Last academic year was very challenging and crucial for me as I was trying to achieve a good portfolio and significant professional development. I was pleased with the outcomes, and as a result, I gained enough confidence to present my work outside the university.

This year we got the opportunity to present proposals for our solo exhibitions to take place in Project space one. I submitted my ongoing project for research and development module, ' En route to Redemption'. Having received the confirmation from the College, the exhibition is organised between the 10th and 14th of February 2020.

Exhibition Proposal

"Caste and religion are against humanity."

Indian society deceives itself that caste-based discrimination is dead, yet it destroys the nation to its core. The Violence against the people who are categorised as the lowest in the caste system is often hidden from the limelight because it is a disturbing subject to discuss. We, the people who were fortunate enough to be inhabitants of a higher position of the caste system are oppressed by caste pride to call out on this injustice. So, who is oppressed by caste? Or are we living in denial?

This exhibition aims to pave the way to redemption from social barriers created by caste and religion. Along with prints and two photo books, one in Accordion fold design to develop a sense of continuity with the thoughts and another one in traditional book design to give the audience a break from the chain of thoughts, this exhibition explores the theme of oneness. This project acts as the opening of my main project titled "Redemption", a celebration of oneness ( which is in progress). Both the photo books are handmade, and the photos used in the books are laser prints. The A5 prints are framed in a way, that reflects the warmth of the photographs.
